We believe that delicious food shouldn’t cost the earth

literally or figuratively

Our mission

At Sustainable Sauces, our mission is to rescue perfectly edible fruits and vegetables that would otherwise be wasted due to cosmetic imperfections or retail surplus, and transform them into gourmet sauces, chutneys, and soups. Each product we create is a testament to the belief that food deserves a second chance, and that preserving taste can go hand-in-hand with preserving the planet.

Food waste is a staggering issue in the UK, with nearly 40% of produce never reaching consumers. We partner directly with local British farmers to purchase this “imperfect” produce - not only reducing landfill waste, but also supporting growers with fair payment for crops that would have otherwise gone unsold. This helps sustain farming livelihoods in an industry increasingly strained by rising costs, unpredictable weather, and immense pressure - both economic and emotional.

Our roots are personal. Founder and chef Matthew Henman grew up on a family farm, learning the value of fresh produce and the satisfaction of turning a seed into a nourishing meal. With over 25 years in the hospitality industry, he now combines culinary expertise with a social conscience to bring you condiments that tell a story - one of resilience, care, and community. Through traditional preserving methods and smart packaging, we extend the life of rescued ingredients and deliver premium products you can feel proud to serve.

Every purchase of Sustainable Sauces helps us push this mission forward. A portion of profits is donated to UK farming and mental health charities such as the Farm Safety Foundation, and products are regularly shared with food banks to support those most affected by the cost-of-living crisis. It’s not just about making something tasty - it’s about making a difference.
